Sam Hamilton Nominated to head USFWS

Sam Hamilton, a career biologist who has focused on habitat protection and restoration was nominated by the Obama adminstration last week to head the Fish and Wildlife Service. As head of the Fish and Wildlife Service, Hamilton will be responsible for coordinating recovery efforts for over 350 federally listed species and managing 128 wildlife refuges. Previously he worked as the Southeast Regional director based in Atlanta Georgia, overseeing the operations of the Fish and Wildlife Service in 10 states and the Caribbean. While the nomination still needs to be confirmed by the Senate, we can hope that his experience as a biologist will encourage him to make scientifically directed, sound management decisions with our fisheries here in the Northwest.
